Itsukushima, also known as Miyajima, has been the single most beautiful place I have seen to date. Sitting just off the coast to Hiroshima, the place is an absolute tourist attraction - granted - but once the sun lowers and the tourist boats leave the harbour, the little village on the island becomes a peace-haven. The only sound is a flute that is being played by a monk somewhere inside one of the temples there, while the old pagodas and shrines are illuminated by a dim light. If you visit Japan - go and stay the night! Phillip
On the top of Yamadera temple in Japan, one can find this very famous scene. Apparently, the little house that you see there is actually a grave - a grave for the person that founded that temple in the first place. There are worst spots to be laid to rest I'd say. - Phillip
This is one of the many temples in Miyajima, an Island just next to Hiroshima. I did not actually climb up these stairs as I was on my way down from another section of the mountains, but come on ... if these stairs don't lead to a temple, then I don't know where they could possibly lead to! Besides, most paths in that area would end in a temple, so it is a valid assumption, hehe. -Phillip
